Enabling Success

The trick is being aware of your own actions and behaviours. I suppose its a combination of leading and

inspiring. Its about ethically ensuring that you have buy in that your way is the right way, with a sprinkle

of mutual respect, trust, commitment and loyalty.

So this skill is something you can learn and here is a 5 point plan to get you started.

1.     Who is it you want to influence?

What is your purpose about influencing others to come on board with you?

What are their motivations and priorities?

Ask open questions to find out more.

Build relationships

2.     How have you got on so far with your influencing skills?

Would you do anything different?

If so, test it out because it could be that your influencing skills are influenced by your own bias and you’re out of rapport with those that you are trying to influence.

3.     What language are you using? Is it too big picture or too much detail?

Do your public speaking skills need some attention (Remember Enabling Success can assist you in this).

4.     What’s your natural style like?

What about using behaviour flexibility to win over hostility or indifference?

Think of the issue from the other person’s perspective it could lead you to have more than a ‘foot in the door’.

5.     Reflect on what went well and what could be improved.

Get feedback from those present to open up your Johari’s window.
