Last Thursday I was one of six models that came together to show off the clothes of Genevieves, Carlisle. The funds raised went to Cumbria’s Hospice at Home.

Being a model is great fun and it certainly pushes the boundaries. Not only do you have to show the clothes to their best, you also have to concentrate on the different walk routines, and do your utmost not to trip up on the catwalk either due to high heels or the length of gown  your modelling.

For me there was a moment when my zip went! I hasten to add that it wasn’t because I was squeezed into a mother of the bride outfit; it was because I bent down to pick up some flowers that had been dropped on the catwalk. I was doing my health and safety bit to make sure no model slipped and ended up as an embarrassing heap on the promenade.

At this point I ‘discreetly’ slipped off the catwalk to the changing area and got my dress adjusted once more. Then I was back on the stage with a beaming smile to cover up the embarrassment.

Life is like being on the catwalk at times. You push yourself forward to do these things for the greater good and sometimes it ends up back firing.  Actually that’s Ok though, because when mishaps happen it makes the situation more real, pushes you beyond your comfort zone and leads you to be resourceful, flexible and adjustable to the situation.

In order to save any potential embarrassment for my modelling friends, sometimes you have to stick your neck out for other people. For me on the catwalk it just added the fun to the day, I made the audience smile and giggle and it gave me a tale to share.

So, take the rough with the smooth and be prepared to step up to protect others even if it means ‘you become undone one way or another’.
